Microsoft Marketing: Here We Go Again

I really don’t want to always pick on Microsoft’s marketing. However, they really have a wonderful track record of awkward marketing efforts. Here’s to their latest and greatest stunt:

Trying to push their new product Songsmith, Microsoft recently has come up with what will go down in history as one of the worst promotional videos ever:

Did they really think covering the Apple logo with some flower stickers is enough to fool people into thinking the girl’s laptop actually is a Windows machine? Making matters even worse, Songsmith of course only is available for Microsoft Windows.

However, as with their earlier efforts they obviously did something right, as Songsmith quickly has become an Internet meme with people posting really awful new versions of famous songs on YouTube. Here’s one I’m particularly fond of:

PS: I’ve always considered Billy Idol a bit creepy but to me this somehow arouses an impression not unlike that of a serial killer gently stroking his favourite rifle whilst whistling a happy tune…
